➤ What are the Application Forms Required?
- Application form in CMV FORM 2.
➤ What are the Documents to be Given?
- Valid learner’s license.
- Vehicle in which the applicant proposes to appear for the test of competence to drive.
- In case of a transport vehicle, certificate in form CMV 5 issued by a Driving Training School.
➤ Where to File the Application?
The applicant shall present themselves before the RTO/Sub Divisional Magistrate along with the application and documents, or apply online on the SARATHI portal.
➤ What is the Amount of Fees Payable?
Fees are as per Rule 32 of CMVR 1989.
➤ What is the Driving Test (Test of Competence to Drive)?
The Inspector of Motor Vehicles will conduct the test of competence to drive as per the procedures laid down under Rule 15 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. After assessing the driving skills, recommendations about the issue of a driving license will be provided.
➤ What to do in Case of Failing the Test?
Applicants who fail the test of competence to drive can collect their application along with documents and can reappear for the test after 7 days by paying a retest fee of Rs. 50/-.
➤ What is the Period of Validity of a Driving Licence?
Driving licenses issued are valid throughout India. The validity period varies based on the applicant's age:
- If under 30, the license is valid until the person turns 40.
- If aged 30-50, the license is valid for 10 years from the date of issue/renewal.
- If aged 50-55, valid until the person turns 60.
- If over 55, valid for 5 years from the date of issue/renewal.
Driving issued for transport vehicle will be valid for five years.
