What are the application forms required ?

  • Application form in CMV FORM 2.

What are the documents to be given ?

  • Valid learner’s license.
  • Vehicle in which applicant proposes to appear for test of competence to drive vehicle..
  • In case of transport vehicle, certificate in form CMV 5 issued by Driving Training School.

Where to file application ?

  • The applicant shall present himself before the RTO/Sub Divisional Magistrate along with application and documents can apply online on SARATHI.

What is the amount of Fees payable


  • Fees as per Rule 32 of CMVR 1989.

What is Driving Test (Test of competence to drive)?

  • The Inspector of motor vehicles will conduct the test of competence to drive vehicle as per the procedures laid down under the rule 15 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. After satisfaction about the driving skills he will pass his recommendations about the issue of driving.

What is to be done in case of FAIL in Test of competence to drive ?

  • The applicant who have failed in test of competence to drive can collect his application along documents and can reappear for the test after 7 days by paying retest fees of Rs. 50/-.

What is period of validity of Driving Licence?

  • Driving issued is valid throughout India. 
    • Validity of Driving licence:- 
      • has not attained the age of thirty years on the date of issue or, renewal thereof, be effective until the date on which such person attains the age of forty years; or
      • has attained the age of thirty years but has not attained the age of fifty years on the date of issue or, renewal thereof, be effective for a period of ten years from the date of such issue or renewal; or
      • has attained the age of fifty years but has not attained the age of fifty-five years on the date of issue or, renewal thereof, be effective until the date on which such person attains the age of sixty years; or
      • has attained the age of fifty-five years on the date of issue or as the case may be, renewal thereof, be effective for a period of five years from the date of such issue or renewal
  • Driving issued for transport vehicle will be valid for five years.
