CENTRALLY SPONSORED PROJECT OF SHEEP SECTOR

IN HIMACHAL PRADESH.

                        The Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India has sanctioned a project in the name of Integrated Wool Improvement Programme-Sheep and Wool Improvement Scheme (IWIP-SWIS) in favour of the Federation. This scheme is fully funded by the Central Wool Development Board Jodhpur. The duration of the project is 4 years with financial outlay of Rs. 5.00 crores. The scheme is to be implemented in the districts of Chamba, Kangra and Kullu where 4 lacs sheep are proposed to be covered. The objectives of the project are as under:- 

  1. Qualitative & quantitative increase in wool production in State.

  2.  Up grading of the Gaddi Sheep population of district Chamba, Kangra and Kullu  through cross breeding programme.

  3.  Veterinary facilities to the Sheep owners on the migratory routes so that the       morbidity and mortality rate is minimized.

  4.  Improvement of economic status of wool growers.

  5. To provide maximum assistance to the sheep owners in shearing, procurement, product development and marketing. perlink

                Basically the scheme is aimed at increasing the livelihood opportunities of the breeders coupled with economic growth for their long term sustainability.

1          Breed Improvement

                        Under the scheme rams costing Rs.2500/- each is to be distributed free of cost to the breeders. One ram will be provided for 100 breedable ewes.

3          Training Camps :                                                                                                                            Top

                        Camps are to be organized for modern sheep husbandry training at field level. Each camp is of 3 days duration. The beneficiaries are being provided with the following material in the camp.

  •  First Aid Kit

  •  Rs.100/-  per day as boarding and lodging assistance.

  •  Rs.50/- as bus fare.

  •  Distribution of printed material.

4.         Product Development:                                                                                                                 Top

                        For encouraging quality of wool assisting of Rs.2.50 per kg. is to be provided to the sheep breeders for grading, washing etc.

5.         Marketing Assistance:                                                                                                                 Top

                        For procurement by the Federation transportation facility is to be provided to the breeders. 

6.         Multi Purpose Extension Centre:

                        In order to facilitate nomad breeders, assistance for health care, shearing, storage, sale of wool etc. under one roof is to be provided to the breeders on migratory routes.
