3 - NEED FOR POLICY ON NEW TOWNSHIPS

3.1 Unplanned new urban centers are gradually coming up in Himachal Pradesh even today. Power projects are also being set up and colonies to house their employees are being developed. These urban centers are not coming up properly because they are not self contained and planned.

3.2 There is need for a clear-cut policy on new townships in order to:-

• Regulate the development of naturally growing new / urban centers.
• Encourage private sector participation.

3.3 There is a need for clear and simple guidelines for development of new townships in Himachal Pradesh.
